Each lane has two targets, separated by a wire safety fence. Two players throw at once. Always throw together, and wait behind the red line until your opponent has thrown BEFORE collecting your axe.
Aggressive, belligerent, bigoted, racist and threatening language and behaviour will not be tolerated.
BATL is fully licenced, but please know your limit and drink within it. Visibly drunk players will be asked to leave.
Coaches are available for all sessions to aid with technique and to ensure the rules are being followed.
BATL is a friendly competition. Each match begins and ends with the opponents tapping their axes together.
Each round consists of three sets of five throws for a total of fifteen throws. The maximum normal points per set is 25 (for five bulls or 27 with a clutch) or 81 for three perfect sets (four bulls and a clutch per round). In a typical league night, each player will throw 3-4 rounds. Each league lasts 8 weeks (7 weeks regular play, 1 week playoffs).
The target consists of three rings. The points are awarded as follows:
Inside the blue ring - 1 point* Inside the red ring - 3 points* Bullseye - 5 points* Clutch - 7 points**
*In order to score, the majority of the blade must be in the circle. The scorekeeper (a third player who is not currently throwing) relies upon the players to call their scores, and either player can dispute a score at any time while the axe is still in the wood. Any disputed scores can be settled by the scorekeeper using The Device (a slide rule) to measure the amount of blade inside the circle. Paint lines count as 'in' for scoring purposes. A blade that hits the target but falls before it can be pulled out does NOT count.
**In order to score on the clutch (one of the two green circles above the target) one must clearly call the shot before throwing. Hit the clutch for a last hail-mary to pad your score. Miss and get 0, even if you hit the bullseye. Unlike the other scores, a clutch hit counts if the blade hits any paint at all, though a blade majority is good bragging rights.
Ties: any ties are broken by using the BFA (Big Fucking Axe)
Beginners: First to hit the target anywhere within the paint wins the match. Novice: Best 3 out of 5 throws to hit anywhere inside the paint. Expert: Regular points round with the BFA (including Clutch throws) Another tie would result in each player throwing until the tie is broken.
BATL is open 7 days a week 6pm-10pm.
League Nights are Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays
Walk-In free-throws on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
